The MacJannets defined the ideals of “global citizenship” and “civic engagement” and how it could be used to change peoples lives and serve as a force for good. The MacJannet Foundation was established in 1968 by the MacJannets and friends to continue their work and to sponsor worthy programs which promoted international tolerance, enlightenment and cultural understanding through structured educational exchange and experiences. Thus, The MacJannet Foundation’s work was started some 45 years ago and has continued to fund worthy non profit programs in partnership with Tufts University, Les Amis du Prieure, and others.
The MacJannet Foundation Board is an international board which consists of former MacJannet friends, program alumni, and/or those global citizens sharing or caring passionately about the Foundation’s mission and programs. The Foundation provides funding for the following important initiatives and programs:
1) The MacJannet Scholarships are awarded to deserving undergraduate students to participate in the Tufts University European Center (TUEC) summer studies program in Talloires, France each year (learn more about TUEC by clicking here).
2) The MacJannet Prize – was established by the Talloires Network and the MacJannet Foundation to recognize exceptional student community engagement initiatives taking place at Talloires Network member universities (at over 100 institutions from around the world) and contributes financially to their ongoing public service efforts.
3) The MacJannet Fellowships – an endowed fellowship in the name of Donald and Charlotte MacJannet at the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy which allows deserving European students to receive financial scholarships to come study at the Fletcher School in Medford, MA each year.
4) Les Amis du Prieure (Friends of the Priory) – is a local french cultural association based in Talloires, France. For over twenty years, Les Amis du Prieure has continued the MacJannet tradition of sponsoring and hosting meaningful cultural events, lectures and concerts at Tufts University’s historic Priory during the summer. Les Amis du Prieure also provides scholarships for deserving local french high school students to participate in Tufts University’s english as a second language program in Boston, MA during the summer.
